Your manuscript and BCR Press

BCR Press prioritizes literature written by BC authors and publishes literary fiction, select nonfiction, and poetry. (As for speculative fiction and mysteries? Hmm, a categorical maybe.) 

For the first quarter of 2026, BCR Press will consider novels and short story collections ONLY.
 

BCR Press welcomes submissions from first-time book writers and career authors. It has an open-door policy for authors who are members of diverse communities and affiliations.
 

BCR Press accepts simultaneous submissions, but wishes for authors who submit manuscripts to acknowledge that. Plus: please inform BCR Press if your submitted manuscript has been accepted for publication elsewhere.
 

Your patience is invaluable. With limited staff and a complicated to-do list, immediate responses are exceedingly unlikely. An email to check on the status of a submission will not hasten a reply.
 

At this time, BCR Press has no plans to publish children’s and YA literature, self-help books, academic texts, genre (thriller, horror, fantasy, romance) novels, or cookbooks.
 

BCR Press will focus with near exclusivity on BC authors. Aside from a mandate to specialize in BC authors, practically every Canadian-owned independent publisher, including BCR Press, is made viable in part by government grant funding at federal and provincial levels. Success with these grants is contingent on the publication of Canadian authors.
 

BCR Press does not publish any work (including an ebook) that has been previously published and assigned an ISBN, or that will be self-published while BCR Press considers it. It does not give editorial advice on manuscripts unless the work has publication potential.

Send your manuscript (11-pt Times New Roman) to submission[@]bcrpress.ca
 

In the all-in-one PDF file attachment, be sure to include—
 

i) a succinct cover letter (note if the ms is a simultaneous submission)
 

ii) a brief bio and list of previous publications
 

iii) a 250-word synopsis of your manuscript
 

iv) a sample of your manuscript (two stories, two chapters: full manuscripts will not be considered, read, or responded to. If your proposal seems a good fit, BCR Press will ask for the full manuscript.)
 

v) a list of 2-3 similar books and how you distinguish yours from them
 

Please send your manuscript only once. Revised and updated versions will not be read; as much as possible, be contented with your book before you send it.
 

Owing to the volume of submissions BCR Press receives, it will accept only one manuscript at a time from an author.
